Early life and career

Michael Rosenbaum was born in Oceanside, New York, and raised in Newburgh, Indiana. His religion is Jewish, and he claims he was "closer to religion" in New York than he was in Indiana. After graduating from Western Kentucky University with a degree in theater arts, he moved to New York City in order to pursue an acting career.

Once he was in New York, MTV Networks executive Vincent Letizia found his photograph in amongst a batch of other photographs for casting submissions for a show called Talk Girl. The pilot was finished, but never aired or picked up for an entire series. Despite this, the network loved Rosenbaum's performance, and a pilot for The Michael Rosenbaum Project was filmed. The show would involve Rosenbaum in a reality TV setting, taking on new jobs every day. This pilot, too, was never aired or picked up for an entire series.

His very first acting role that aired on television was Jonathan Summers, a character who appeared in only one episode of the Warner Bros. sitcom The Tom Show. His first breakthrough role was Lex Luthor in the 2001 series Smallville, whom is still his most known role to this very day.
